In conjunction with Dr. Karl Kozlowski , Dr. Frank Cerny and Dr Jon Metz, Score This!!! will be hosting a series of educatiCanisius Collegeonal topics to help athletes learn more about multisport.  Each presentation will be about 15-20 minutes in length with a 15-20 minute question and answer period.  All classes will  take place on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm at Canisius College in Buffalo in the Koessler Center Room G21.   This building is located on Main and Delevan.

This series is designed to help athletes improve their knowledge base of the topics.  These topics are designed for a multisport 101 college level and new for the 2012 season a few 201 classes.  These presenters will include more advance knowledge if the participants seem to be at a higher level than the stated 101 course description.

Basic Strength Training - This seminar will focus on what happens when we strength train and why it is important to include into multisport.  Attention will be paid to a better understanding of the strength - endurance continuum in resistance training.

Functional Strength Training: This seminar will focus on utilizing simple, basic, and multi-muscle functional activities designed to enhance functional strength for endurance athletes.

Metabolism 101: At its most basic level training is the optimization of the metabolic production of energy (metabolism) and the physiologic processes that support it – the muscles, heart and lung. We will explore the basic concepts of metabolism as it relates to athletic performance.

Power Basics: If you are new to training with power or are just thinking about it, this seminar is for you. We will discuss the simplicity of what power is and how to train utilizing power.

Exercise Testing - What is an exercise test?  This seminar will discuss the types of exercise tests available why you should consider testing and what a person should expect going into and coming out of such tests.

Metabolism 201: This session will focus on some important training principles that are based on a basic understanding of metabolic energy production.

Test Data: This seminar is about knowing what to do with your test data. You will learn how find your lactate threshold heart rate and how to establish your individual heart rate training zones.

Race Fueling - As we get close to toeing the start line, you should begin to think about your nutritional needs during an event.  We will discuss the utility of energy gels, energy bars, drinks and when you should employ each.
5/2/2012 Race Strategies 6:30pm Jon Metz, Ed.D. USAT Certified Coach
Race Day Strategy: Race day strategies will be discussed in this seminar including pre-race logistics, executing the race plan, and how to manage the unexpected.
