A new age graded race series set to begin in Western New York
In January, Mueller Services will team up with Score This!!! to bring a unique, age-graded race series to Western New York.
By making use of World Masters Athletics’ Age-Graded Tables, The Mueller Challenge aims to be an exciting event that encourages local runners of all ages and experience levels to compete against one another on a level playing field. First devised in the mid-1970s, WMA’s Age-Graded Tables consider both a runner’s age and gender in addition to race time before comparing athletes against global standards.
The Mueller Challenge will be the first race series in Western New York to implement Age-Graded Tables. The series will also mark Mueller Services’ first-ever event presented by Score This!!! Inc, which is entering its 20thseason producing multi-sport and running events. Running-enthusiasts will recognize the Mueller name from its annual fun-run, The Mueller Mile. A community favorite event since 1996, The Mueller Mile emphasizes participation in a healthy, wellness-driven lifestyle, and follows a one-mile track through the city of Tonawanda.
The Mueller Challenge race series will begin January 25, 2015 with the Penguin Run, with races continuing through until November 21, 2015 and ending with Michelle's Memorial Run.. There is no sign-up needed, and every runner will be automatically placed into the series as long as the race meets the following eligibility requirements:
- timed by Score This!!!
- USATF certified as to distance
- date of birth on race registrations (for determining unique persons)
Athletes who complete eight events in The Mueller Challenge will be invited to an appreciation banquet, completely free of charge. The top 100 runners in the overall age-graded ranking will also be eligible for a series award.
