Winner winner possible chicken dinner

Ladies and Gents of Musselman,

Seneca Lake is frozen, but thawing.  The streets are dirty, but the rain with wash that away.  The grass is brown and now you have to pick up an entire winters worth of your dogs fecal matter, especially if you live in the Northeast.  FYI, the last part is all up to you, but we are experts in timing and can arrange a crew to time you if you would like.  Either way that’s OK because the sun has been shining on Seneca Lake State Park and the roads in both Ontario and Seneca Counties.  Soon we will see you riding the course for practice with smiles on your faces because we know soon enough the nirvana that is Musselman will be here before you know it.  Make sure you stop in town and say hi to Jim at the Geneva Bicycle Center.   They like when people come in an hang around and bring them pizza.

Well no chicken dinner, but something sweet from Rudy Project.  We had a contest.  Entries were submitted.  The entries were tallied.  We promised the top three gift certificate to Rudy Project whether you were entered into the 2015 race or not.  We don’t like broken promisses so without further ado the winners chosen by the race committee are:

1st Place – Bob Rudolph – TnT Honey Badgers
The town of Geneva is great

The Musselman Tri is first rate

Town’s people are fun

They cheer as we run

I’ll be back to participate

2nd Place - Ian Hoffman

From Musselman’s opening gun,

I’m soaked, but still having my fun.

Though I’d like not to get,

just once equally wet,

on the swim, the bike, and the run.

3rd Place - Ian Hoffman

Athletic prowess, surely I lack it,
Seventy point three, barely I hack it,
When I race Musselman,
Just one reason I can:
My final reward, frosty Red Jacket.

Did you see that Ian Hoffman won twice?  Maybe he has found a niche and needs to write a limerick book.  Nice job to both Bob and Ian.

So the infamous Musselman Committee had fun reading through all of your Musselman Limerick entries and selected what they thought embodied the Musselman Triathlon.  Now it’s your chance to pick some additonal winners. Please go to vote for the limerick that you like the most.  The top three winners  will be mailed a gift certificate to SLS3 worth $25 US dollars. SLS3 has some high quality gear and you can view everything that they have to offer here:  Voting will expire on March 30th and we will announce the additional winners in the next Mussel Newsletter.  Will it be yours or will Ian win a 3rd time?

Not only has Nineteen returned as a supporter of the Musselman Triathlon they decided that they wanted to be involved in the entire Score This!!! Multisport Series.  We will have swag this year at the Musselman to give away at the awards ceremony like you have never seen before.  It pays to stick around to see what the race announcer will be randomly awarding someone from the crowd.  Who knows maybe it will be $200 gift certificate towards a new Nineteen wetsuit.  Nineteen Wetsuits is an award-winning wetsuit company focused on designing suits not simply for warmth, buoyancy and flexibility, but to complement the fundamentals of good freestyle technique. This allows you to translate your hard work in training into results in open water. With up to 20 different sizes available, you’re sure to find the ideal fit to make this your best swim season yet. You can find out more about Nineteen’s full range of products here at

Did you hear this news?  We have been listening to what many have asked us now for many years. We packed up the station wagon and took a long drive across the USA to slept outside the Gatorade factory for two weeks until they finally asked us in to talk.  Once inside we told them the Musselman story and they said we need to get our product on the course Sunday.  They couldn’t believe they weren’t already there.  We are excited to announce that Gatorade Endurance will now be on both the bike and run courses for Musselman.  Gatorade Endurance Formula is scientifically formulated to meet the needs of endurance athletes. It contains a five-electrolyte blend including nearly twice the sodium (200 mg) and more than three times the potassium (90 mg) compared to original Gatorade Thirst Quencher. Drink Gatorade Endurance Formula to help sustain hydration, maintain proper fluid balance and help replace key electrolytes lost in sweat during long distance training and racing.

Did you know that Seneca Lake is the largest of the glacial lakes?  Did you also know right now it is frozen?  Did you also know that Seneca Lake is home to approx. 50 winneries.  If you have friends who like wine bring them with you to the Musselman and make a weeks vacation out of it.  They can check out the wine trail while you sit around worrying about the race.  Then have them volunteer on Saturday and Sunday to help us keep you all safe while racing. Did you also know that Knapp Winery, Billsboro Winery, Chateau LaFayetter Reneau,  and Anthony Road Winery have been providing awards for the Musselman?  Please take a moment to check out what they have to offer and we can tell you that they are delicious.  If you have a chance to visit Chateau LaFayette Reneau, Anthony Road, Knapp, or Billsboro during Musselman Weekend, please do. CLR is located on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake, on Route 414 just past the town of Hector. Anthony Road is on the western shore, 10 miles south of Geneva along Route 14. Billsboro is also on Route 14, just a few miles south of Geneva, and Knapp is on Ernsberger Road in Romulus, just off the Half bike course!

When the Cayauga Medical Center said that they wanted to cotinue their partnership with the Musselman they didn’t just want to be present race weekend they wanted to know how they could give back to the athletes that support them.  What we came up with was a series of webinar that would support athletes in different aspects of racing.  The first was March 19th so most of you missed that one, but the next is April 9th at 6pm.  The topic is Tri Success: Essential Aspects of Your Training Program that You May be Missing.  The entire series has 7 chances to increase your knowledge from some extremely knowledgeable professionals.  Find out more about the topics and sign up for FREE here:
